The Leaves are Changing
By Michael Orr

The leaves are changing, yet I see
A different kind of change in me.
The shades of yellow, brown, and red,
Remind me of my heart instead.

For once I was a bright green leaf,
Still new in faith and base belief.
Impassioned by my newfound treasure,
My faith grew strong, beyond all measure.

But then I faced the strain of living,
Demanding more than I was giving.
The corners of my passion faded,
The further into life I waded.

As spring and summer turned to fall,
I cried out to the Lord of all.
I prayed for leaves of green again,
Before the strain of strife and sin.

And then He showed within each shade,
That life in Him could never fade.
The reds and yellows were a part
Of God’s redeeming work of art.

And so I see the Fall anew,
And seek new eyes in all I do.
As changing leaves now make it clear,
Eternal life is drawing near.
